Costa’s NEW Signature Latte: smoother milk, fancier art, and a few raised eyebrows

Costa has gone and released something called the NEW Signature Latte. Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it? In reality, it’s not a brand-new bean discovery unearthed from the mountains of Peru, it’s Costa’s trusty Mocha Italia blend paired with milk that’s been given a little extra TLC. The big sell is textured milk for a velvety mouthfeel, a prettier pour (hello, latte art), and, in some stores, a slightly pricier bill at the till.

What actually is a Signature Latte?

On paper, it’s Costa’s usual espresso base (the same one powering your flat white or cappuccino), topped with milk that’s been steamed to silkier microfoam. Think less bubbly bath foam, more glossy velvet. That milk technique lets the coffee flavour push through a bit more than in a standard latte. Costa’s marketing team calls it “crafted for a richer, bolder coffee experience.”

How is it different from the regular latte?

Aside from the milk treatment, the big difference is presentation. Regular lattes, on the other hand, are a bit more hit-and-miss: decent if your barista’s on form, forgettable if they’re in a rush.

Some baristas have admitted this is basically charging extra for what many independents consider a standard latte. That hasn’t stopped Costa framing it as their new premium option.

Taste test

If your store nails the milk texture, you’ll notice the coffee flavour pops a little more, and the drink feels smoother going down. If they don’t? Well, it may just taste like the latte you already know, minus a pound in your pocket.

Price and availability

Standard lattes hover around the mid-£4 mark in UK stores. The Signature Latte has been spotted creeping higher, so check your branch if you’re curious, or check out the full 2025 Costa Menu. It’s already on Costa menus nationwide, so this isn’t a limited-time gimmick, it’s here to stay.

Our verdict

If you’re into texture, presentation and don’t mind paying for latte art, give the Signature Latte a whirl. If you’re happy with the old faithful, a regular latte will still hit the spot.
